Frequently asked
Mint alternatives FAQ
- Is Mint still available?
- No. Intuit shut Mint down on 23 March 2024. The Mint website now redirects to a page explaining that Mint has been reimagined on Credit Karma, and the Mint apps and account dashboards no longer work. Intuit moved popular Mint features such as transaction review, spending tracking and net worth monitoring into Credit Karma.
- What is the best Mint alternative?
- There is no single replacement because Mint bundled budgeting, account aggregation, net worth tracking and credit monitoring. Monarch Money and Copilot Money are the closest paid replacements for people who want a polished all-in-one dashboard. YNAB is the strongest choice if budgeting is your priority, Empower is the closest free replacement for net worth tracking, and Actual Budget or GnuCash are the best options if you want to own your data.
- Can I still access my Mint data?
- Mint accounts were closed when the service shut down, so you can no longer sign in to Mint. If you downloaded your transactions before the shutdown you can import them into another app, and many Mint alternatives support CSV import. Intuit also moved some Mint features into Credit Karma, but that is a separate account and does not restore your old Mint workspace.
- Is there a free Mint alternative?
- Yes, but free personal finance apps usually make money somewhere else. Empower is free and focuses on net worth and investment tracking. Credit Karma is free and now hosts some of Mint's spending features. Goodbudget has a free forever tier with envelope budgeting and a 1 year history limit, and GnuCash is free and open source if you are happy with a desktop app and manual entry.
- What should I check when replacing Mint?
- Start with bank connectivity, because Mint's biggest strength was linking thousands of institutions and every replacement handles connections differently. Then check whether you need budgeting, net worth tracking or credit monitoring, since most alternatives are strong in one area and weak in others. Finally, decide how you feel about paying, because the closest replacements for Mint are subscription apps while the free options either sell advertising or require manual data entry.
